During this season of “21 Days of Prayer”, worship and praise God for WHO HE IS. Tozer in Knowledge of the Holy finds 18 characteristics of God in the Bible.
(You can remember the attributes of God they are presented in this acronym: WISH TO FLOSS, JIM EGGO.) Today let’s look at “O” and “S” and “S” of “Floss” – His Omnipresence, Self-Existence, and Self-Sufficiency.
Omnipresent
God is everywhere – in and around everything, close to everyone. He is everywhere at the same time. This term means “always present”. His being knows no boundaries. His words “I am with you always” is repeated twenty-two times in the Old and New Testaments. This repeated truth is a comfort to us that God is “all-present.”
Scripture:
Psalm 139:7-12 ~ “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,’ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.”
Jeremiah 23:23-24 ~ “’Am I only a God nearby,’ declares the Lord, ‘and not a God far away? Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?’ declares the Lord. ‘Do not I fill heaven and earth?’ declares the Lord.”
Matthew 28:20 ~ “…and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Self-existence
When Moses asked who he was talking to in the burning bush, God said, “I AM THE ONE WHO ALWAYS IS.” God just exists. Nothing else in all the universe is self-caused. Only God. If anything else had created God, that thing would be God. A little difficult to comprehend! We read in the Bible, “In the beginning, God.” God was already there. God is here. God will always be.
Self-Sufficient
“God has life in Himself. All other life in the universe is a gift from God. He has no needs and there is no way He can improve. To God, nothing else is necessary. He does not need our help with anything, but because of His grace and love, He allows us to be a part of advancing His plan on earth and be a blessing to others. We are the ones who change, but never God. He is self-sufficient.” ~ Tozer
John 5:26 ~ “For as the Father has life in himself, so He has granted the Son also to have life in Himself.”
Prayer: Oh Lord, thank You for being faithful to me even when I’m not faithful. I know You keep Your promises to me because You kept the greatest promise in sending Your Son. Give me an opportunity to share with someone about Your faithfulness in my life.
Your love is limitless and sacrificial. Help me to continue to trust in Your unfailing love, even when I’m tempted to think I have to earn Your love – based on my performance. I need your help to love others as You have first loved me.
You are the God who is everywhere. When my way seems dark, You are still there with me. Thank You for promising to never leave me. I am grateful that even though You don’t need my help, You’ve chosen to partner with me in showing others Who You are.
I worship You for being omnipresent! There is no place I can go where You aren’t there already. Your knowledge is far above what I can comprehend. I trust You and I trust Your perfect purposes and plans. My times are in Your hands, Lord. Send me.
