Quote: “I’ll Be Home For Christmas. Keep the porch light on.”
Some Thoughts: I was the only one of my siblings who moved away from the little village of Dresden after leaving home. After my own children were born, for many years, the most important part of Christmas vacation was that we’d be “home” for Christmas. (“Home” was my parents’ place, aka Grandma and Grandpa Park.) Sometimes we’d get there late at night, and Daddy always said, “I’ll leave the porch light on for you.” That “home” is no longer. Both my parents are truly “home” for Christmas.
I read the words of a mother grieving the loss of her daughter. She sensed her daughter saying to her, “If you could only see me now.” Many of us have experienced grief and the loss of loved ones – some recently. Can’t you hear them saying, “If you could only see me now!”?
We are reminded in I Corinthians 2:9: “No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” I can hear Jesus saying: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world, and I’ve left the porch light on for you.” John 16:33 (and a little “extra” from Diana)
Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for bringing the light so we can find our way. As we light our candles on Christmas Eve, we hold our candles high, proclaiming that YOU are the light that cannot be extinguished! We worship and adore You and thank You for the gift of salvation! Thank You for the confidence we have in You – The Way, The Truth, The Life!
