Scripture: Psalm 130:7 – “Put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.”
Some Thoughts: Francis Asbury traveled thousands of miles via horseback or carriage preaching the gospel all over what would soon be the United States of America. He rose each morning at five o’clock in the morning to saturate his spirit with Scripture. God’s promises in Scripture gave Francis the strength and hope he needed to ride, in spite of horrible migraine headaches, continual bouts with malaria, pneumonia, and other illnesses. He consistently thanked God, no matter what. This became his reputation: thanking God, no matter what.
One day he and a companion had ridden for several hours through freezing rain to hold a meeting at a frontier settlement. What would have been super discouraging to me was… no one showed up to join them. Instead of giving up, Asbury began riding through the hills to gather a few of the faithful. His friend wondered what in the world Francis could thank God for on this miserable day. Asbury looked up to the heaven and prayed, “Lord, we thank Thee that every day is not like this one!”
Now that’s an example of gratitude and living in hope!
There is always a reason to be thankful and full of hope. Where does our hope lie? Are we “hoping” that things will be different? Are we putting our “hope” in whoever is the leader of our country? Are we putting our “hope” in our country’s economy? Are we putting our “hope” in that tomorrow will be better than today?
Our hope is in the LORD, for God is faithful. God doesn’t just love us; God IS love. He has unfailing love. Hebrews 10:23 ~ “Let us hold unswerving to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” I like the word “unswerving”. Hold “unswerving to hope”, because God is faithful!
What are the things you find yourself “hoping” for? Bring those to the Lord and put your hope in Him to bring about His purposes and will in these matters.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your many blessings. Thank You that You are aware of the desires and hopes in our hearts. We put our complete hope and trust in You and thank You – no matter what.
