JOY IN OUR ROLES

Quote:  There are no small roles; only small actors

Some Thoughts: Sometimes I feel very small and insignificant in my role in partnering with God for “His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in Heaven.”  A quote I recently saw made me think twice: “Offer your pebble and trust God to magnify the ripples.”  – Becky Reife.  This same author also said: “The end of our rope is the beginning of God’s grace.” 

In “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”, the director of the children’s Christmas play handed out the parts for shepherds, angels, wise men, Joseph, Mary, donkeys, sheep, etc.  As she did so, she commented, “There are no small roles; only small actors.”  Isn’t that true with Kingdom work?  There is no small role.  Every role is important.  My role during this season seems to be mainly praying and fasting.  There is nothing more important!

Paul prays some really awesome prayers for his beloved converts.  It seems Paul realized the importance that each person has an important role.

II Thessalonians 2:16-17 ~“Now may the Lord Jesus Christ and our Father God, who loved us and in His wonderful grace gave us eternal comfort and a beautiful hope that cannot fail, encourage your hearts and inspire you with strength to always do and speak what is good and beautiful in His eyes.”

II Thessalonians 3:5 ~”Now may the Lord move your hearts into a greater understanding of God’s pure love for you and into Christ’s steadfast endurance.”

II Thessalonians 3: 16 ~“Now, may the Lord Himself, the Lord of peace, pour into you His peace in every circumstance and in every possible way.  The Lord’s tangible presence be with you.”

Paul was so good at speaking “words of life” and encouragement!  Let’s aspire to live that way.  It’s the most important role we have – to be people of prayer and people who speak encouragement.

I Thessalonians 3:7-10 ~ ”In the midst of all our distress and difficulties, your steadfastness of faith has greatly encouraged our hearts.  We feel alive again as long as we know that you are standing firm in the Lord.  How could we ever thank God enough for all the wonderful joy that we feel before our God because of you?” 

I Thessalonians 5:14-18 ~ “we appeal to you….instruct those who are not in their place of battle.  Be skilled at gently encouraging those who feel themselves inadequate.  Be faithful to stand your ground.  Help the weak to stand again.  Be quick to demonstrate patience with everyone.  Resist revenge, and make sure that no one pays back evil in place of evil, but always pursue doing what is beautiful to one another and to all the unbelievers.  Let joy be your continual feast.( (The Aramaic translation is: “Be joyous in every season.”)  Make your life a prayer.  And in the midst of everything, be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer:  Lord, in persevering in prayer, I offer You my little pebble and let You magnify the ripple.  I want joy to be my continual feast.  In everything, I give You thanks, for this is Your perfect plan.  I long for Your perfect peace to be poured over every circumstance.  Thank You for Your steadfast love.
