Scripture: Philippians 3:13-14 ESV – “But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Some Thoughts: I found some “P” words I had written in my journal at the beginning of a new year. “My goal is to Pray unceasingly. My goal is to Praise God lavishly. My goal is to Persistin prayer for those who don’t know God in a personal way. My goal is to Practice love as He has commanded, even to my enemies.” Since that journal entry, I’ve added some more “P” words. I want to live in the “Present” and “Be Present”. What I mean by “living in the present” is to leave my regrets behind; and not worry about tomorrow and what hasn’t happened yet. To “be present” is to be attentive to the people God brings along my path today. I don’t want to miss any opportunity or “God moment” by not being fully available or attentive to others’ stories and journeys. I also want to “Press forward”. It’s so easy to get “stuck”. I want to do as the Scripture says, “Forgetting those things in the past, we press forward to the goal for the prize.” The Passion Translation says: “I don’t depend on my own strength to accomplish this; however, I do have one compelling focus: I forget all of the past as I fasten my heart to the future instead. I run straight for the divine invitation of reaching the heavenly goal and gaining the victory-prize through the anointing of Jesus.”

Prayer: Oh God of the past, of the present, and the future, how quickly we stumble and find ourselves worrying about present and the future. Help us as we persevere. May praise be always on our lips. When we live in state of thanksgiving, the fears and worries fade. Thank You for Your promise to never leave. Renew our hope, renew our strength, revive our passion as we press forward the prize. My prize will be hearing You say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” In Jesus Name, I pray. Amen.
