Some Thoughts: Practicing personalizing Scripture has been transformational in my life! Not only is it a good way to “hear” Jesus speaking to us, but it is good to pray Scripture for those for whom you are interceding.
One of the most common prayers of intercession (praying on someone else’s behalf) that I hear from people is in regard to children and grandchildren. I was having a conversation with someone about big “mountain-moving” prayers and this person responded: “Our ‘really big mountain situation’ is some (if not most) of our kids, grandkids, and great grandkids don’t have the Lord in their lives or even think about the Lord, except through us. But we will continue to pray and speak to them as the Lord leads.”
Our love causes us to be burdened and prompted to pray for prodigals, whether they be children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren or even those not related that God has caused our paths to intersect with. Because of our love, we carry a burden for them. It occurred to me that it is no “mistake” that YOU are the parent/ grandparent/great-grandparent of those kids/grandchildren/great-children in your life!! Could it be you were “handpicked” for “such a time as this?”
I thank God for grandparents who interceded on my behalf from the time I was born until the day they left this earth! Don’t be discouraged with praying and not seeing results. God sees into the deepest parts of each one’s heart. Your prayers are not in vain.
Sometimes we don’t know how or what to pray. Here are some Scriptures that might help you as you pray “mountain-moving prayers” for your loved ones:
*“Lord, watch over __________ keep __________from harm, watch over his/her life; watch __________’s coming and going both now and forevermore.” – Psalms 121:5-8
*“Reach down Your hand from on high; deliver __________ and rescue him/her from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.” – Psalm 144:7-8
*“I will give __________an undivided heart and put a new spirit in him/her; I will remove from__________his/her heart of stone and give him/her a heart of flesh. Then __________will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. __________ will be my people and I will be his//her God.” – Ezekiel 11:19-20
*“For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for __________and look afterhim/her. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after__________. I will rescue __________from all the places where he/she was scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.” – Ezekiel 34:11-12
*“May _________know the truth; the truth will set him/her free.” – John 8:32
So many Scriptures! Look at Matthew 22:37, Acts 26:18, James 4:7, and Jeremiah 33:3, and Psalm 16:8, as well.
Prayer: Lord, it is a mystery to me that You speak in ways that each person needs to hear and can recognize. I release my loved ones into Your hands for You to conform to Your purposes and plans. I am committed to love them and bless them and continue to pray diligently for them. Thank You for entrusting me with this responsibility. Thank you for “handpicking” me to be the one to love and intercede on their behalf.

I believe prayer can ripple through generations. My great grandmother prayed for her children and grandchildren. She died 15 years before I was born but I read her journals and know her prayers. I believe I was a vicarious recipient.
What a blessing that you were able to read her journals! My great-grandmother was a musician and I was her only great-grandchild when she died. (I wasn’t quite 5 years old, but I remember her.). I believe God passed on some of her musical talent to me and I know that I was prayed for by her, as well as my being prayed for by my grandmothers. So grateful for praying grandparents!
