WALK IN THE LIGHT

Scripture: Isaiah 9:2 AMPC – “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great Light; those who dwelt in the land of intense darkness and the shadow of death, upon them has the Light shined.”
Some Thoughts: I’ll never forget a night in December when we rode our bicycles with some other bicyclists we were in a group with. It was dark. Because of the darkness, the stars were brilliant! We all had decorated our bikes with Christmas lights and the darkness allowed the beauty of the multi-colored lights to be seen for a distance. We normally would ride our bikes at 5:30 pm for exercise and fun. We’d watch out for cars and they’d watch out for us.
However, this particular night was different from the others. People were waving from windows of their houses, people out walking thanked us, and we had some cars honk and say, “Thank you! Way to go! You guys are awesome!” Being thanked for riding our bicycles? What made this night different? The darkness and the lights shining in the darkness. Christmas lights bring cheer. Bringing light into the darkness brought appreciation.
It’s been said, “The darker the night, the more brilliant the light.” It’s true.
Today, when the sun goes down (earlier and earlier every day (for a couple of more weeks), light a candle in a dark room. Sit in the darkness for a few minutes and look at how the candle changes the room. What things do you see that you didn’t see before?
What is the most difficult thing you are facing in your life right now? Just as the candle changes the way the room looks, the Light of the Worldv- Jesus – changes how we see things in a way we didn’t see before. No matter how great the darkness, it cannot overcome even the smallest flicker of light.
John 1: 5 – “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
I John 1:5-7 (NIV) – “This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all[ sin.”
2 Corinthians 4:6 – “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 5:5 – “For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.”
Psalm 139:12 – “Even the darkness is not dark to You; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with You.”
Continue to walk in the light. Continue to be the light.
Prayer: Father, You spoke the Words, “Let there be light” and it was done. You have no trouble seeing the path as darkness is light to You. Thank You for making it possible for us to walk in the light. Thank You for Your guidance. Thank You for speaking hope into our hearts. Thank You for Your promises. We trust You will not allow us to stumble and fall when it’s hard to see the path ahead.
